Why we built HomeCalc
Mortgage calculators that don't handle Canadian stress tests. Roofing estimators that use national averages wrong for everywhere. Salary calculators that only cover federal tax and miss your state entirely. We built HomeCalc because the existing tools weren't good enough for people who needed real numbers when making real financial decisions.
Every calculator on this site is designed to give you the same quality output a licensed professional would describe in a free consultation — without the sales pressure, without the upsell, and without the signup requirement. You get the number, understand why it's the number, and go make a better-informed decision.
What we are (and what we're not)
We are a publisher. Our calculators provide estimates based on publicly available tax tables, regional cost data, standard industry formulas, and 2025–2026 market benchmarks. We update them when rates, tables, or regional averages change significantly.
We are not licensed mortgage brokers, financial advisors, real estate agents, or contractors. Nothing on this site is financial, legal, or professional advice. The YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) disclaimers on our finance and home improvement pages are there because we mean them — always verify with a licensed professional before making decisions involving large sums of money or permanent property changes.
Our tools
HomeCalc covers four main areas:
- Home Finance: Mortgage calculator with full amortization, refinance break-even, home affordability by income and DTI, closing cost estimator by US state, and debt-to-income ratio calculator.
- Renovation Estimators: Roofing cost by material, concrete volume, paint coverage, flooring cost, drywall estimator, kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation, and home addition cost per sq ft.
- Income Calculators: US salary (all 50 states + federal), Canadian salary (all provinces + CPP/EI/health premiums), freelance rate calculator, and 1099 self-employment tax estimator.
- Blog & Guides: Long-form articles explaining the numbers behind our calculators — how to read an amortization schedule, when to DIY vs hire a contractor, how home inspection works, and more.
Who we are
HomeCalc is produced by the Infinfy Home Finance Team — a team of writers, developers, and researchers at Infinfy Solutions, a web agency based in Vancouver, BC.
Our content is researched against primary sources: IRS publications for US tax tables, CRA guidelines for Canadian tax, contractor industry surveys for renovation cost data, and current mortgage rate data from publicly available lender sources. When we quote a number, we link to or describe our source.
We also build websites for tradespeople and home service contractors — if you're a roofer, plumber, painter, or general contractor without a professional web presence, Infinfy can help you get found online.
How we keep this free
HomeCalc is free and will always be free. We earn revenue two ways:
Affiliate partnerships: Some links on this site — typically to mortgage lenders (LendingTree), home contractor matching services (HomeAdvisor), and financial tools — are affiliate links. If you use one of those links and make a purchase or sign up, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Our calculator results are never affected by affiliate relationships. Display advertising: We may show non-intrusive ads. These are served by Google AdSense and are contextually matched to the page content.
We will never sell or share your personal data. HomeCalc does not require account creation and does not store your calculator inputs.
Accuracy and updates
We maintain our calculators on a rolling basis. Tax tables are updated when IRS or CRA publishes new rates (typically January). Renovation cost data is reviewed against industry cost surveys twice a year. Mortgage rate assumptions in our articles are flagged with the date they were last verified.
If you find an error in a calculation — wrong formula, outdated tax table, incorrect regional cost data — please contact us. We take accuracy seriously and correct errors promptly.
